Why Is It a Good Idea to Remodel Your Bathroom As You Age?

As we age, we may begin to face many physical and mental challenges. However, the preference of our aging society is to retain an independent lifestyle. Remodeling and updating our current homes to meet specific needs provides a comfortable, familiar environment.

As a remodeling company who specializes in remodeling bathrooms, our design focus is to create a healthy, functional, beautiful, and safe space to support our customers’ lifestyles.  During mid-life, we may develop any number of ailments such as visual perception change, sensitivity to temperatures, and slower reaction times. We may also be afflicted with conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, or experience an operation that challenges our mobility for any amount of time. We believe that the bathroom is the most important space in which to incorporate safety features such as level thresholds and grab bars to prevent falls on a hard surface.

Many aging-in-place design features available today are aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. Adequate lighting is also important in a bathroom, as well as proper switching and waterproof outlets. Dimmers are a good idea to conserve electricity, but also can help with sensitive eyes as you age.  A walk-in, tiled shower – complete with non-slip tile, a bench seat, rain head, hand held shower, and grab bars – provides ease and accessibility without compromising aesthetics. You may also consider installing a comfort height toilet, levered handles for faucets, pulls for cabinet hardware, and plenty of storage within arms reach. Contrasting finishes throughout the space improves the visual distinction between countertop and floor, making sure that each of them look considerably different for aging eyes.

Lastly, a security system with 24 hour monitoring affords peace of mind to the homeowners. These security systems can range from simple theft security to more complex systems that can cover for fire or medical emergencies. Some of these systems can also include programmable thermostats. Depending on your home, these systems can be affordable and relatively easy to install.

Of course, all of these features are only suggestions. Homeowners may elect to incorporate some or all of these elements. The safety features mentioned above are only the beginning of the many affordable options available for aging-in-place bathroom design. With the growing number of design options and products available in the aging-in-place market, it is very easy to personalize your bathroom project to maintain an independent lifestyle for many, many years to come.

De-Clutter Your Worthington, OH Home With a Basement Remodel

In Central Ohio towns like Worthington, Upper Arlington, and Bexley, finished basements are one of the best ways to make your home stand out. Your ordinary basement remodel may not be visible from the outside. However, visitors to your home will be surprised to see just how expansive your living space is with a new finished basement. But your new basement space may cause those visitors to also ask you an interesting question: where does all your extra stuff go if you don’t throw it in the basement?

For those homes that don’t have easily accessible attics, so many basements end up being where people collect what they don’t use anymore. The last thing you want in your home is a place where you automatically collect clutter. With all of the stuff we accumulate throughout our daily lives, the basement has typically been relegated to long-term storage. However, this storage is often not well-organized, extremely hard to access, or both. But now, if you finish the space, you’ll be forced to organize all of that stuff and create a much better living environment without all the clutter.

Depending on your home’s size, the basement can take on a wide variety of uses. From a game room, to extra living room, to home office, there are so many options you can choose from. If you have a large enough basement, you can mix and match many options for a mixed-use space. The most important thing about finishing a basement is that it will force you to organize your home in new ways. You’ll have to find a place for anything and everything to go. Sure, you can relegate a considerable percentage of your new finished basement to storage. But still, you will be forced to make some decisions about where to put things that you otherwise would not have to make.

With all of the additions and major remodels that you can do in your Central Ohio home, transforming your unfinished basement is perhaps the most attractive way to add value to your home. But a brand new organized and designed living space not only adds dollars to your home’s overall market value. It also provides many valuable assets to your family and friends far beyond any financial benefits, and that includes de-cluttering your home and keeping your life in order. Make your Columbus Metro home stand out and be the best that it can be.

This consumer rated program provides additional assurance consumers can count on quality, professional services. The program also provides a no cost mechanism for consumers to provide feedback on work performed for them by NARI members. Our goal is to expand our membership base to encompass all industry partners that share our professional values and code of ethics,” states Shari Bates, CAE, Executive Director of NARI of Central Ohio.

Consumers have rated all ACE Award recipients on four criteria:  Quality of work, Professionalism, Reliability and Timeliness.  In order to receive the NARI ACE Award, the company must be a member of NARI and must receive an average grade of 3.5 or better with 4.0 being the highest rating, based on the scores submitted by consumers.

What Sets Scott Hall Remodeling Apart as a Worthington, OH Design-Build Remodeler?

Downtown_Worthington,_Ohio

In a city like Worthington, OH, how will you choose the best remodeling company for your project?

While Scott Hall Remodeling focuses mainly on basement finishing, bathroom remodels, and minor and major kitchen remodels, we’re equipped to handle a wide variety of remodeling projects. At one time, we focused primarily on bathrooms. Now, we have expanded our services to tackle a far greater range of remodels. We also have an easy and clearly defined 5-step design/build process.

  1. Consultation and Budgeting
  2. Discovery and Design
  3. Planning and Organization
  4. Construction
  5. Warranty

Other firms may have similar processes listed on their website. But, they often include far more steps that could be more easily streamlined into a process similar to ours. We want you to be involved with every phase of the process. Some firms will say “leave everything to us,” and of course you can trust us, but you still need to be part of the decision making process throughout the entire project. Who wants to have someone tell them something needs to be done in a certain way only to find later that it was only “value-added” for the benefit of the one doing the work? We promise that we will never do that and guarantee to stay in budget as best as we possibly can.

Another thing that sets us apart from some other remodeling firms is our absolute dedication to customer service. While all firms, of course, have devotion to customer service, we strive to go above and beyond in our communication and our meticulous planning and organization. We want to make the design-build experience as much fun for you as it is for us helping you do it.

Never Cut Corners with Design-Build Remodeling

contractor-working-morguefile

Nowadays, many homeowners are looking to try and save as much money as they can in every area of their lives. However, when it comes to kitchen remodeling and basement finishing, you want to make sure that you don’t take bargains for the sake of a bargain. Your home is very valuable and the last thing you want when planning a major renovation like a kitchen or basement remodel is finding someone who will help you stay in budget, but cut corners in doing so.

Here at Scott Hall Remodeling, we don’t cut corners ever. Our Design/Build process does not allow for that. We have talented design specialists to help you figure out exactly what your needs and desires are for your new kitchen or basement and help you realize the needs as well as all the desires that your budget can afford. If our experts know that something you may desire won’t work in your allotted budget, we will show you options how you can fit in something similar or rework certain aspects of the project without sacrificing quality.

The other major benefit of using a Design-Build Remodeler such as ourselves is that you get what is called “Scope Development.” This means that every aspect of your project is planned out in great detail, from product selections to design specifications to work schedules. While there can be inevitably little pitfalls in every well-laid plan, Scope Development helps to overcome common problems that can emerge in remodeling projects with careful and thoughtful planning of each step.

At Scott Hall Remodeling, you can also be rest assured that we have only the finest and most talented artisans working on your project. Without Scope Development, you may not know when or how the project may actually be completed and project estimates can end up being much too low, costing you project overruns that you may not have intended. Labor costs can be a big part of what can become a remodeling nightmare, but with Scope Development, the labor is anticipated just like everything else.

If you’re planning on remodeling your kitchen or basement, check out our 5-phase Design/Build process. If you like what you see, don’t hesitate to contact us or give us a call. We’re more than happy to help your dream kitchen or basement come to life.
